Amish Built Furniture
Dennis has been crafting furniture for more than 15 years, having first discovered his natural talent and passion for it working for a furniture maker in the Lanesboro area. He continued to refine his talent and learn the business side as an apprentice at his father-in-law’s woodshop and family business.
As is common in Amish tradition, Dennis purchased the family business when his in-laws moved out of state in 2002. Since establishing Countryside Furniture, Dennis and his wife Mary have continued to expand the business while remaining true to its heritage and values.
At Countryside Furniture, Dennis brings together his years of handcrafting experience along with his desire to connect with the community and his customers. One of the things Dennis most enjoys is getting to know and become friends with his customers. Because the furniture is handcrafted one piece at a time, Dennis believes in working closely with his customers – helping to ensure their vision comes to life in the final piece.
Countryside Furniture uses only the highest quality materials and is built to last a lifetime. Dennis’ hope is that each piece becomes a family heirloom that is passed on. Wood types include oak, quarter-sawn oak, cherry, walnut, hickory and maple, and are purchased from local area sawmills. While offering a wide variety of customized furniture, Countryside Furniture does specialize in bedroom, living room and office.
Dennis does most of the building and varnishing/finishing onsite at his woodshop on the farm, allowing him to be close to his wife Mary and five children who are also integral to the business. Mary handcrafts textiles and other small household items available for sale, and the children often help out in the shop. Dennis’ long-term vision is to teach his children the craft so that like his furniture, the family business can continue to be passed on from generation to generation.
